The principal construction element of the restoration project is the replacement of the existing Chequesset Neck Dike with a bridge with tide-control gates. The full bridge opening will be 165 feet, as opposed to only an 18-foot wide culvert in the present structure, and will be opened incrementally to slowly re-establish regular tidal exchange over hundreds of acres of the Herring River estuary.
