The Bird Observer Journal has a Guide to Birding the Manchester-Essex Woods.
Mancheste-Essexr Woods covers about 200 acres of land and features wetlands, forests, meadows, and streams. The woods were once part of the ancestral lands of the Agawam tribe and later the site of a sawmill and a railroad. Today, the woods are open to the public for hiking, biking, birdwatching, and nature study. The Essex County Greenbelt Association manages the property and provides educational programs and stewardship activities for visitors and volunteers.
There are many miles of trails within the woodlands of Manchester and Essex, which contain wonderful locations of keen interest. The Manchester-Essex Woodlands guide describes the trails and points of interest, showing the locations, telling the stories, and describing the significance behind them.
