About Sierra Vista Environmental Operations Park
Wildlife Viewing Platform: With the completion of the city’s water reclamation facility also comes a new wildlife-viewing platform that overlooks nearly 50 acres of constructed wetlands. These wetlands are located along a major southwestern avian flyway. The facility is open to the public daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests planning to visit the facility are asked to read and adhere to all signs and are restricted to the main entrance road and the viewing area. Enjoy your visit and provide for your safety by carrying drinking water and sunscreen in the warmer months.

The Sierra Vista Environmental Operations Park (EOP) consists of 640 acres and offers fifty (50) acres of constructed wetlands that, along with native grasses provides a bird and wildlife habitat. A convenient 1,800 square foot wildlife-viewing platform, surrounded by native landscaping is located near the wetlands for bird and wildlife enthusiasts. At the heart of the EOP is a four (4) million gallon per day capacity wastewater reclamation facility (WRF), which includes a ten (10) acre complete mix/partial mix lagoon system and thirty (30) acres of recharge basins. The complete mix and partial mix treatment ponds include more than forty-five (45) aerators to mix the wastewater in order to nitrify and treat the water. These aerators run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The WRF treatment capacity was designed to recharge up to 4,000 acre-feet of treated effluent per year. Both the City’s Compost operations and the County’s regional solid waste transfer station are located at the EOP.
