Lake Elaine

East Butler Avenue Flagstaff, Arizona 86004

Tips for Birding

This spot is often full of ducks and geese during migration and winter. The majority of ducks on the lake congregate on the northeastern end, the deepest part of the lake, but groups may be seen on any part of the lake, so a scope is highly recommended. The southern end, along Skyview, provides a good area to park off the road and scan. Parking along the eastern end of Skyview is a bit trickier, but from there one can walk back along Butler to a viewpoint much closer to the majority of the ducks. Be sure to check the shoreline for geese in winter, but note that almost all the shoreline is private property, so getting a closer look is often difficult.
