Tonto National Forest Tonto Basin, Arizona 85553
Official WebsiteLocated on central Arizona’s largest lake. Several miles of hiking and lake access trails wind through the site. This site offers a choice of single and double camp units or shoreline use. 54 camp units with picnic tables and fire rings with grills.
This site is approximately 13 miles northwest of Theodore Roosevelt Dam. Do not attempt to cross Tonto creek when it is flowing!! From Mesa: Take the AZ-87 (Beeline Highway) north for about 60 miles to the junction of AZ-87 and AZ-188. Turn right and follow AZ-188 for 23 miles to its junction with Forest Road (FR) 60 (A Cross). Turn left and continue across Tonto Creek for 2 miles to FR-661 (Indian Point). Continue on FR-661 for one mile to the site. The entire route (except for the first 0.75 miles of FR-60 where it crosses Tonto Creek) is paved.
From the Globe area: Take AZ-188 north for 30 miles to the junction of AZ-188 and AZ-88. Continue on AZ-188 over the bridge for another 11 miles to Forest Road FR-60. Turn right onto FR-60 and continue to the site as described above.

Migratory waterfowl (including Canada geese) and raptors (including bald eagles and osprey) use the lake during the fall and winter. Small isolated islands and coves offer outstanding opportunities for camping and relaxing in the unique Sonoran Desert.
From Mesa: Take AZ-87 (Beeline Highway) north for about 60 miles to the junction of AZ-188. Turn right and follow AZ-188 for 26 miles to the lake. The entire route is paved.
From Globe area: Take AZ-188 northwest 27 miles to the lake. The entire route is paved.
