Tips for Birding

The Roger Road Wastewater Reclamation Facility closed in 2014. In late 2023 the 2 ponds reopened as Pima County's Agua Nueva Park. Park hours are dawn to dusk. The nearest parking is at Sweetwater Wetlands. Much of the vegetation around the ponds was removed. Native trees have been planted east of the ponds. The best birding here is waterfowl watching in the cooler months. The ponds are also partially visible from Sweetwater Wetlands.

About this Location

The Roger Road Wastewater Reclamation Facility closed in 2014. On January 8, 2014, this facility was decommissioned and is now off limits to bird watchers.

During the first half of 2014, while clean closure activities are underway, there will be no onsite access to the general public. The department is studying the best way to provide public access to the ponds without providing access to sensitive and hazardous areas on the plant site.
