About this Location

In 2003, the Harwich Conservation Trust (HCT) and the Trust for Public Land helped the Town preserve 42 acres of this 77-acre assemblage. This landscape was saved thanks to more than 1,100 HCT donors; challenge grants from Wequassett Resort and others; town and federal funds. HCT holds a permanent conservation restriction on the town’s 42 acres. The land stretches nearly one-half mile along Monomoy River (Muddy Creek) with a scenic view of Pleasant Bay.

HCT helped preserve this land to protect the Pleasant Bay estuary, public drinking water supply, cultural history, wildlife habitat, walking trails, and a stunning view from Route 28 of woods rambling down to the water. This singular landscape is dedicated in memory and honor of D. Isabel Smith, a founding Trustee of the Harwich Conservation Trust and Chair of the Town’s Real Estate and Open Space Committee. She led conservation successes with grace, persistence, and a sparkle in her eye.
