About this Location

Hanson-Powell is a little-known parcel of 7.3 acres that extends from Central Avenue in East Falmouth to Bournes Pond. The woods of pine, scrub oak, and dense brush open up at the back to a grassy rise that offers a lovely view of the pond.

The town purchased the land at the corner of Central Avenue and private Mary Manuel Way from Etta Hanson-Powell in 2000, using Land Bank funds.

Thanks to a Boy Scout, David Howland of Troop 42, the woods have public access. A small trail starting on Central Avenue, south of Mary Manuel Way, winds among the trees to the pond and back. David designed and cleared the trail as his project to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

In the spring of 2010, two local companies, Rapoza Landscaping and Clover Paving donated their services to create a small parking area at the parcel to improve public access.
