This hotspot is best approached by parking at one of the parking pulloffs on Pattison Road. It is worth noting that this reservoir is a drinking water supply for North Adams and Williamstown, so public access is limited to viewing birds from a distance and no contact recreation is allowed. It is best to bring a spotting scope and view birds from the top of the embankment. Avoid going beyond the embankments and stay off of the shoreline.

Cackling Geese can be fairly reliable at this hotspot during the autumn. During times of drought (especially in late summer), part of the eastern shoreline will become muddy which creates a good opportunity for shorebirds.

The Mount Williams Reservoir is on Pattison Road. The Appalachian Trail passes the west end of the reservoir. There is a trailhead for the Appalachian Trail on Pattison Road.
