About this Location

Riverfront State Park is a public recreation area located on the banks of the Merrimack River in the city of Lawrence, Massachusetts. The park offers scenic views of the river and the Great Stone Dam, as well as opportunities for fishing, boating, picnicking, and walking. The park also features a playground, a boat ramp, and a visitor center with exhibits on the history and ecology of the area. Riverfront State Park is open year-round from dawn to dusk and is accessible by car, bus, or bike.

The Merrimack River is a 117-mile-long river in the northeastern United States. It rises at the confluence of the Pemigewasset and Winnipesaukee rivers in Franklin, New Hampshire, flows southward into Massachusetts, and then flows northeast until it empties into the Atlantic Ocean at Newburyport. From the point where the Merrimack turns northeast in Lowell, Massachusetts onward, the Massachusetts–New Hampshire border is roughly calculated as the line three miles north of the river.
