Newburyport Harbor is a historic and scenic port. It was founded in 1635 as a fishing and shipbuilding center and later became a major hub for trade and commerce. Today, the harbor is home to a variety of recreational and cultural activities, such as boating, fishing, whale watching, art galleries, museums, and festivals. The harbor also features a lighthouse, a maritime park, and a waterfront boardwalk that offers stunning views of the Merrimack River and the Atlantic Ocean.
Newburyport Harbor is located at the mouth of the Merrimack River and the north end of Plum Island.
