Rumney Marsh Official WebsiteThe Pines River SALS (Saugus Ash Landfill Site) Monitoring Project is a long-term environmental assessment program that aims to evaluate the potential impacts of the landfill on the water quality and aquatic life of the Pines River. The project involves collecting and analyzing water samples from various locations along the river, as well as conducting biological surveys of fish and macroinvertebrates. The project is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and is conducted by a team of experts from various disciplines. The project started in 2019 and is expected to continue until 2029.
This is also a monitoring site in the Rumney Marsh for the Osprey Monitoring Program managed by Greenbelt, the Essex County Land Trust.

Rumney Marsh is a 600-acre salt marsh located within the Saugus and Pines River Inlet. Visitors can bird watch, fish, and boat. The marsh is an important site for flood control, water quality improvement, and recreation. Rumney Marsh is part of the Saugus and Pines River Marshes Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC), which protects its ecological and historical values.
There are parking lots on Ballard Street and Bristow Street. There is no pull-off parking allowed on MA-107.
