A spotting scope is not essential here, but could be very useful. 

Ashfield Lake is fed by the South River, which flows through several towns in Western Massachusetts and joins the Deerfield River. Ashfield Lake is also home to The Ashfield Lake House, a restaurant that serves local and creative dishes with a view of the water. 

The town of Ashfield manages a park on the south end of Ashfield Lake.
