Bruce Freeman Rail Trail Official WebsiteThe Butter Brook Section of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail crosses Butter Brook, a tributary of Nashoba Brook, five times on bridges that offer views of the wetlands and wildlife. The trail also passes by the Butter Brook Golf Club, a public 18-hole course that welcomes cyclists and hikers. The Butter Brook Section is part of Phase 1 of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail, which opened in 2009 and extends for 6.8 miles from Lowell to Westford.

The Bruce Freeman Rail Trail is a rail trail through the communities of Lowell, Chelmsford, Westford, Carlisle, Acton, Concord, Sudbury, and Framingham following the 25-mile route of the old New Haven Railroad Framingham and Lowell line. The trail has a 10-foot wide pavement with a 2-foot wide packed shoulder on each side. The Bruce Freeman Rail Trail is open to non-motorized uses such as cycling, jogging, walking, rollerblading, and skiing.
