About Warren Woods
Formerly the farm and homestead of Henry and Edith Warren, Warren Woods consists of 120 acres of pristine farmland and woodland. Ashland’s Henry Warren is credited with being the “Father of Electric Time” and was an entrepreneur, inventor, philanthropist, lover of nature, and a gentleman to all who knew and worked for him. Some of Warren’s land was donated to Northeastern University at the time of his death in 1957; the remainder was gifted to the university in 1967 by his wife Edith. These donations were made with provisions for the preservation of the land but once the restrictions expired, Warren Woods was at risk of being sold for development. A passionate grass-roots movement by Ashland residents resulted in the Town’s June 5, 2012 purchase of the land from the university to preserve Warren Woods for public use and enjoyment.
