Uxbridge Rice City Pond

About this Location

The Rice City Pond is in the Blackstone Valley Heritage Corridor. The construction of the dam resulted in the creation of Rice City Pond. The dam was built in 1865 creating a large holding pond in the Blackstone River and flooding the canal upstream for nearly 100 years. The canal and towpath were visible however the water level has risen to cover them in this section.

This hotspot can technically be accessed from two spots along Hartford Avenue East:

  • To the west of the pond look for Charles Ballou Memorial Recreation Area sign on the south side of the road. Park in the gravel parking area along the road. This access point is better for hiking.
  • To the east of the pond look for the Rice City Pond sign on the north side of the road. This access point provides a better view of the pond and river.
