During the fall hawk migration, the summit is a good place to view broad-winged and sharp-shinned hawks, bald eagles, peregrine falcons, and ospreys as they head south. A narrow 1.5-mile road to the summit of Mount Prospect affords great views of the surrounding area. A wide array of songbirds nest in the park.

John Wingate Weeks Historic Site’s Mount Prospect estate was built at the direction of John Wingate Weeks, a leading conservationist, U.S. member of Congress, U.S. Senator, and Secretary of War under Presidents Harding and Coolidge. The 420-acre Mount Prospect estate was given to the state of New Hampshire in 1941 by John Weeks’ children, Katherine Weeks Davidge and Sinclair Weeks. Set at the very top of Mount Prospect in Lancaster, the house and grounds provide a 360-degree panorama of mountain splendor, including the Presidential Range of the White Mountains, the Green Mountains of Vermont, the Kilkenny Range, the Percy Peaks, and the upper Connecticut River Valley.
