About this Location

Eliot Bridge is a historic bridge that crosses the Salmon Falls River, connecting the towns of Eliot, Maine, and Dover, New Hampshire. The bridge was built in 1939 and is one of the few remaining examples of a steel truss bridge in the region. The bridge has a total length of 1,282 feet and a main span of 300 feet. The bridge is named after John Eliot, a Puritan missionary who preached to the Native Americans in the area in the 17th century.

Gulf Road is a scenic road that crosses the Eliot Bridge into Maine, becomes ME-101, and runs along the eastern shore of the Piscataqua River. The road offers views of the river, the bridge, and the historic buildings and landmarks of Dover and Eliot. Gulf Road is popular among cyclists, walkers, and drivers who enjoy the natural beauty and history of the area. Gulf Road is also part of the Coastal Byway, a designated route that showcases the cultural and natural resources of Maine and New Hampshire.

The New Hampshire-Maine state line is halfway across the bridge.
