Although this suburban park may be entered on foot or bike off Mission Road as well as Cloudcroft Circle, vehicle parking (including accessible spots) is located at the main entrance off Sonora Springs Boulevard. Most of the trails are wheelchair accessible but can be steep in places.
Vegetation is almost exclusively creosote, low-growing mesquite, and yucca, so you will see mostly Chihuahuan desert birds. However, surrounding houses have many non-native trees, attracting a wider variety of species, such as American Robin, to park edges. Waterfowl may often be seen by looking through the chain-link fence on the park's east side toward the Sonoma Ranch Golf Course lake.
Desert Trails Community Park has 34 acres of native terrain with rambling trails, wildlife, and wide open vistas. Contains an educational information sign, doggie bag stations, drinking fountains, and trash containers.
