Unlike the similarly-named hotspot Portales Water Treatment Ponds, this hotspot is publicly accessible, with a path that is wheelchair traversable surrounding the rip-rap banked pond.

The pond is located just southeast of the Portales Recreation and Softball Complex. You can park east of the Recreation Complex, for which there is a dirt entry road off Industrial Drive, north of 14th Lane. Finding Industrial may be challenging, due to the lack of a street sign at the corner of 18th Street. Your landmark will be the MyMar Terminal Services sign on the northeast corner.

eBird species-frequency bar charts for the hotspot likely include observations around the ball fields as well as along the longer, less developed, trail southwest of the pond. Note that sports facilities construction is ongoing around the site, with planned additions not expected to be completed before spring 2024.

The Portales Waste Water Reclamation Pond is on the west side of Portales on South Industrial Drive.
