Birding in Rhode Island
About Rotary Park and Mastuxet Brook Greenway
This short trail follows a brook that is clean and cold, and supports native brook trout. Boulders deposited by a glacier add beauty to the forest. Where the brook enters the Pawcatuck River nearby is the site where Joshua Babcock, the first settler in Westerly, landed with the daughter of the Governor of Rhode Island with whom he had eloped in a canoe from Newport. They were taken in by a group of Native Americans who were camped at Mastuxet Cove.
Rotary Park, adjacent to the Greenway, has a children’s playground and tennis courts but there are no restrooms.
