South Pond covers about 16 acres and has a maximum depth of 73 feet. The water is clear and clean and supports a variety of fish and wildlife. South Pond is surrounded by forested hills and private land, owned by two conservation organizations: the Ames Hill-Marlboro Community Center and the Whittemore-Paton Trust. These groups work to protect the natural resources and ecology of the area, as well as provide recreational opportunities for their members. South Pond is not a public beach, but it has fishing access managed by the Vermont Fish and Game Department.
